Hip-hop Artist, Dre Wave$ is currently on the come-up of living out his childhood dreams of being an entertainer. Born in the late 90s in Southeast Washington, DC, Wave$ spent most of his time raised by his mother fascinated with all things entertainment; I.e., music, sports, you name it.
Wave$ music journey began around 2016-2018, as he’d perform around the DMV area with friends. After this, he took his next steps by moving out to LA and toying around with the concept of content creation. Here Wave$ sparked his discovery through the social media platform, Tiktok. Posting and promoting his music on a daily basis, racking in millions of views in total; Wave$ truly used this platform to his advantage and found the upper hand in audience engagement. Analyzing Dre’s social media presence, he is playing the marketing game, and he's doing it well.
The fan base and community he has built through his social platforms have been Wave$ largest supporters throughout his journey. However, as for inspiration, his work delves from his personal experiences and the relationships he holds with the people around him.
This inspiration typically sparks during a walk or drive around his city in an attempt to soak up the sounds and atmosphere of real life. Concerning definitive artists in the industry influencing Wave$ music journey, growing up admiring artists like Westside Boogie, Freddie Gibbs, and Mick Jenkins aided in shaping his style. I find it notable to mention that Dre Wave$ is currently featured on Sterilize with Mick Jenkins, produced by Ricky Desktop, released in July of 2022. Hat’s off to you Dre, huge commendation to see you working with an artist you’ve held admirable since high school.
Wave$ most recent project Worth the Weight was dropped on September 16th of 2022. This project has a centralized theme of perseverance and the consistent stress --or weight-- that comes with life. This album speaks for Dre’s past and current endeavors throughout his life, and how he found his way. Wave$ sets himself apart from the industry through his willingness to be vulnerable in his artistry. He states this brilliance comes from “the act of healing through expression.” His life is shared in his work in the hopes that his audience will not just relate, but find solace and healing within his music. Wave$ promotes his art to the world with nothing but the intent to influence his communities in a positive manner.
