16-year-old producer Noqh from Norway is actively rising up within the underground hip-hop industry.
After one of Noqh’s brothers showed him Kendrick Lamar's DAMN, he admits the hidden messages throughout that project were so mind-blowing that it immediately boosted his interest in Hip-Hop. This sparked the deep-dive of research through the industry Noqh went through which lead him to discover his biggest inspirations today; Knxwledge, Earl Sweatshirt, Griselda, MF Doom, and Madlib. Since his spark of interest in hip-hop, Noqh admired rappers, however, admits his perfectionism got in the way of creating music which lead him down the realm of making beats.
Growing up with three older brothers, Noqh, as well as his siblings all, took piano lessons, always filling the house with music. As piano wasn’t necessarily his niche, Noqh frequently toyed around with the app Garage Band, sparking his journey in production. While he was somewhat integrated within the music industry for quite some time, Noqh admits it was only the January of 2022 that he truly began taking music production seriously.
As an active student in Norway, the Norway schooling system is set up similarly to boarding schools in the states. This leaves Noqh with a handful of free time to not only work on up-and-coming projects but also time to learn more about himself and his own niche in beat-making. Noqh shares that he fears putting himself in a box, and intends to experiment with different sounds rather than sticking to a niche. As his own music taste varies from time to time, he’d like to watch the diversity behind his production value vary as well.
Currently, Noqh is interested in curating personal full projects in addition to collaborative projects with other artists in the future. Noqh shares that he is extremely appreciative of all the support that has gotten him to the point he is today and is excited to watch artists he's worked alongside grow with him. He’s most interested in expanding his audience at the moment while working on outreaching other artists within the scene of underground hip-hop right now.
I highly recommend checking out Noqh’s work; he displays incredible artistry and uniqueness when it comes to the producing game, and I am thrilled to watch where his career is headed in the next up-and-coming years.
