YNG DiNo, otherwise known as Jamarr Henry, from the Bronx is a Syracuse University student and up-and-coming rapper. Coming from a family that was very encouraging of a career in extracurriculars, YNG DiNo focused the majority of his time around music.
From the age of six to his freshman year in high school, DiNo was a competitive dancer but had difficulty paying attention while he was far more focused on the music behind his movements. Throughout this duration, he additionally learned to play the piano, sax, cello, trumpet, and numerous percussion instruments solidifying the prevalence of music in his life.
DiNo got into rap growing up while driving with his father, who was a huge fan of Tupac. He recalls hearing J Cole's Can't Get Enough on the radio and immediately getting himself an iPod following that furthered his interest in rap.
During freshman year of high school, DiNo was messing around with Kendrick Lamar's instrumental to FEAR, and quickly realized he wanted to start writing stuff down. After this, he began practicing what he had created to show to his friends from school who were extremely encouraging, sparking his drive to continue this passion.
While developing his name, YNG from a good friend of his Young Cook YNG. DiNo comes from the phrase “destiny is never owed,” a positive reminder throughout his music industry endeavors.
The first DiNo experimented with making music was his freshman year of high school before he took the profession more seriously. The song, Fuckin Lit, hyped up his friends leading to them becoming one of his largest encouraging factors in furthering his career. His confidence grew much further following his sophomore year of college after finding similar encouragement on campus; yet admits the positive reactions only make him hungrier for taking larger leaps towards positive progress.
Today, DiNo shares that his biggest influences in the industry sound-wise are JID, Denzel Curry, Lil Wayne, Griselda, J Cole, and Sheff G Musically, when searching for a beat, he admires the realm of real instruments being used like string and brass pieces, taking him back to when his mother would frequently listen to jazz. While still incorporating faster rap into his sound, DiNo is focused on diversifying his discography with melodic vibes to embody the expressive nature of art and refusing the let himself fall within a niche box.
DiNo began making music for the people who could relate to his won storyline, yet now has ventured over into creating projects for anyone with the intention of them interpreting it into their own story. When it comes to an active song in progress, he starts with the beat, then bases his lyric on a storyline reflecting his emotions towards the said beat. Intientally avoiding burnout mid-story, DiNo encourages taking breaks in order to produce the best possible piece of content he can.
“Your body of work and line of work is a part of you. If they effectively communicate your emotions, you are able to be at liberty.”
His most recent single No Drama is out now! Listening to his music myself, I see the diverse sound developing more and more over time and highly recommend following him along for his newly started journey.
